In this blog, I’ll share a step-by-step guide to creating engaging audiograms for the LinkedIn Shorts Section using the "4 C's Formula" for selecting key moments. I’ll cover effective transcription tools, audio extraction methods, and tips for optimizing your content to resonate with your audience.
By the end, you’ll have the tools and techniques to effortlessly repurpose your podcast episodes into eye-catching clips that drive engagement! Let’s get started.
Step 1: Identify The Right Segments
For this part, let’s use the "4 C's Formula" - Clarity, Connection, Conciseness, Curiosity.
Here are a few questions you can ask yourself to evaluate each potential segment of your podcast to determine if it qualifies as a key moment for your audiogram.
- Is the message in this segment clear and easy to understand?
- Does this moment convey a specific message/insight or tip without confusion?
- Does this segment evoke an emotional response (laughter, empathy, inspiration) from the audience?
- Does this moment include a personal story or relatable anecdote that could resonate with listeners?
- Can this segment be trimmed down to 30-90 seconds without losing its essence?
- Is this moment impactful enough to stand alone as a short clip?
- Does this segment contain intriguing statements or surprising facts that could spark interest?
- Will this moment leave listeners wanting to learn more or explore the full episode?
Quick Tips:
- Aim for a duration of 30-60 seconds to align with LinkedIn's ideal video length for Shorts.
- As you listen to the episode, jot down timestamps even if you are not 100% sure about certain segments
- Involve your team for this process to get diverse perspectives and you might get valuable insights you might have missed
Step 2: Transcribe The Segment
Even if you have specific timestamps, getting the full transcript of an episode is usually better. Tools like Turoscribe and PodSqueeze often include timestamps so you won’t have to struggle to find the selected segments.
For transcription and editing, I really recommend Descript. It’s great for transcribing, editing, adding subtitles, and clipping, making everything super easy to handle. Plus, you can easily make changes and improve the content without starting from scratch.
Step 3: Optimize The Text
I recommend having the full transcripts because it allows you to go beyond just pulling out a segment of audio or text for your audiogram.
You can create custom scripts from the podcast content and use AI tools to make voiceovers. This lets you personalize your message and style, making it more engaging for your audience. With these tools, you can easily turn your transcripts into polished audio that really connects with listeners.
While the simplest approach might be to extract the audio and add it to an image or captions, leveraging the full transcript gives you the flexibility to highlight key points, rephrase ideas for clarity, or even create engaging promotional content. This way, you’re not just recycling audio; you’re enhancing it to reach your audience more effectively.
Let's go with the easy way for this blog. In case you want to go with the exact audio of the podcast you can skip the transcript part. As most audiogram creating tools will have a step to edit the text.
Step 4: Extracting the Audio
I am using all the free tools available on the internet to do this.
First is extracting the audio. For that I am using biteable.
Step 5: Creating The Audiogram
I'm using a tool called Audiogram to create audiograms in just 4 simple steps. I’m currently on the free version, but there are various pricing options depending on what you need.
First, I selected a random video from YouTube and extracted its audio. Now, I’m uploading the audio file.
Next, I’ll choose the specific section I want to use for the audiogram.
If you've followed the earlier steps, you should have your timestamps ready, which makes this part easy. After selecting the timestamp, I move on to the next step, where I can choose between two formats. I’m going with the captioned format because it tends to be more engaging for viewers.
Tip: LinkedIn videos are usually muted by default to prevent audio from playing while people are scrolling through their feeds, especially in public spaces.Always add captions to your videos to ensure your message is conveyed even when the sound is off.
Then, I get the option to correct and edit the captions for clarity.
After that, I can pick from a variety of templates available. For Linkedin short pick Portrait as that would ideal for mobile-friendly content that takes up the full screen when viewed vertically.
In the final step, I can customize the text, images, and colors to fit my brand before exporting the finished product.
Once you've customized everything to your liking, simply click the export button.
Make sure to optimize the file format and size.
